What the bleep are we talking about?

Love Yourself, Be Conscious, Manifest,Think Positive. These are the buzzwords, nowdays.

Have you asked yourself what exactly those words mean to you? Without being affected by any readings? (smile)

The Internet is overwhelmed with an abundance of sites that sell all kind of services. They tell you what to do, 12 steps, 20 steps, etc. Today, we can find instruction on anything. The problem is no one knows how to persuade us follow those steps!

There are few authentic writings that explore this subject. Notice, I didn’t say answer, but rather, explore! There is no unique answer for everyone. You’ll have to come up with your own answer.

Are you ready for it? It has been said that at this time of evolution, approximately 20% of people are awake.

Conscious Humor

Live here and now!

How?

My mind constantly takes me somewhere else. It seems that the mind doesn't get along with "here and now." If I am lucky to find myself here and now, I don't know what to do, I am lost, I feel uncomfortable, I am scared, and I am bored. My mind goes into survival mode: thinking!

Gently bring yourself back to here and now!

How?

I keep forgetting, my mind is always occupied, with problems that I might have tomorrow, or with past events, just to make sure I didn't miss anything and I did everything right.

Try harder! You have to be aware of your thoughts.

How?

Every single time I try to be aware of my thoughts, the only thought I am aware of, at that moment, is that I have to be aware.

You should stop asking so many questions. Don't think.

Don't think? How?

Listen to something you don't understand

Stay with it, don't forget to breathe

(smile)

Think left and think right and think low and think high. Oh, the thinks you can think up if only you try! — Dr. Seuss

To Wish or to Intent?

When we wish for something, we become vulnerable. Intention, on the other hand, makes us stronger.

A Wish is a prisoner of purpose, believing that only the desired is authentic. An Intention knows that only present, ”here and now”, is real.

  • A Wish is a beggar. An Intention is an owner.
  • A Wish is impulsive. An Intention acts in cold blood.
  • A Wish is a standalone castle of sand in anticipation of a high tide. An Intention is the high tide.
  • A Wish dies either way, being realized or not. An Intention draws energy from the process.
  • A Wish has only two points in the world: itself and the desired. For an Intention there is a whole world, because it is aware that every next moment is always born out of this moment, which is here and now.
  • A Wish is always on edge. An Intention is uninterrupted and confident.

  • Higher Consciousness

For centuries, philosophers have investigated consciousness.

“There are many philosophical stances on consciousness, including: behaviorism, dualism, idealism, functionalism, reflexive monism, phenomenalism, phenomenology and intentionality, physicalism, emergentism, mysticism, personal identity etc.

Phenomenal consciousness (P-consciousness) is simply experience; it is moving, coloured forms, sounds, sensations, emotions and feelings with our bodies and responses at the center."

It is sometimes held that consciousness emerges from the complexity of brain processing.

I, personally, believe it is true.

Brain chemistry affects human consciousness. Sleeping drugs can bring the brain from the awake condition (conscious) to the sleep (unconscious).

Wake-up drugs reverse this process. Many other drugs have a consciousness-changing effect.

In my writing I often use the word Consciousness. Consciousness I refer to is Higher Consciousness as in being aware of our mental self.

“The concept of higher consciousness rests on the belief that the average, ordinary human being is only partially conscious due to the influence of inferior impulses and preoccupations.

As a result, most humans are considered to be asleep (to reality) as they go about their daily business.”

    It's a Caturday! :)

    Intention

I want to be happy, wealthy, beloved, successful, smart, beautiful, and so on and so forth? Sounds familiar? We all want to have those fancies.

"Very few people capable of imperturbability express views that differ from those commonly accepted prejudices of their social environment. Most people can not even imagine such a view ".

    Albert Einstein

What do we want? To get something that we think we do not have at this moment.

So we set ourselves a goal; make a choice; decide where we’ll go. But we don’t go. Why? Because it is only a ‘WISH.’

How about when we want one thing and do another thing?

We wish to have a slim body, and go to the store and buy two pounds of ham and one gallon of ice cream

Yes, the slim body - is what we wish for, and to indulge in High-Fat Goodies - is our 'INTENTION.' I’d even say it is our need.

Intention - to have in mind for a particular use.

It is logical. Whatever we can’t do without is a necessity.

If the slim body becomes a necessity, we eat moderately and work out.

The following are the questions to contemplate on:

  • Why do we need what we need?
  • Why do we wish what we wish?
  • How to realize what is a wish and what is an intention?
  • Do we intent what we wish for or what we need?
  • How to exhaust our need?
  • Can we transform a wish in to intention?
  • Can we live without a wish?

  • Intention (continued..)

"Intention" is a function of subconsciousness. “Wish” is a function of consciousness.

Let us consider those functions in details. Subconsciousness is controlled by the nervous system, that is our behavior and mental activity occurs automatically.

The nervous system is in control most of the time.

Consciousness is a function of the higher brain, it is mental activity that requires an effort.

The higher brain is not sufficiently developed in modern man. We are not adapted to be in a conscious state for a long time.

"Events that occur in the mind or brain that are not within phenomenal or access consciousness are known as subconscious events."

    Subconscious

"a higher-order account of consciousness proposes that a mental state is conscious when there is a higher-order state, either a thought or a perception, about it."

    Encyclopedia of Philosophy

    How do I find Myself?

How do I find myself? The question relevant to many, regardless of age and social status. It is actual and at the same time, rhetorical. How do I find something that can never be lost?

In using the words "interest" and "desire" in relation to our work and fate in general, we forget that there is a dream and goal. It is a dream and goal that determine and lead life of many people. “Search for oneself” is a simple dissatisfaction with the current state of affairs.

Each person defines his own rainbow of life, for some it is gray, for others white and black. Life is not white or black, life is colorful. To see the rainbow of life, its beauty and attractiveness, you need to live.

Commit the deeds, make choices and take decisions to realize dreams, analyze and go further. This is harder than thinking about life, and seek answers to questions not in life itself, but in a hypothetical space: “what would be if…”.

Your task is to begin to live today, now, to see and feel the widest possible spectrum of life’s paints. Running away from the bright colors and actions is living life out of fear.

In the process of life problems are solved; questions are answered; dreams are realized. Life is hard, for that reason it is very interesting and exciting. Try to see the beauty in yourself and the people who surround you.

Create the best rainbow you can, use all the colors!

    One Taste

"Indeed, the whole point is to be fully at home in the body and its desires, the mind and its ideas, the spirit and its light.

To embrace them fully, evenly, simultaneously, since all are equally gestures of the One and Only Taste.

To inhabit lust and watch it play; to enter ideas and follow their brilliance; to be swallowed by Spirit and awaken to a glory that time forgot to name.

Body and mind and spirit, all contained, equally contained, in the ever-present awareness that grounds the entire display."

"In the stillness of the night, the Goddess whispers. In the brightness of the day, dear God roars. Life pulses, mind imagines, emotions wave, thoughts wander.

What are all these but the endless movements of One Taste, forever at play with its own gestures, whispering quietly to all who would listen: is this not you yourself?

When the thunder roars, do you not hear your Self? When the lightning cracks, do you not see your Self? When clouds float quietly across the sky, is this not your very own limitless Being, waving back at you?"

    Conscious Marriage

If you are a couple whose marriage is on the rocks, the first and foremost thing you want to do is to realize: Do you both desire to restore your marriage? Or it is an obsessed desire one of the spouses?

If both of you have this idea, then the next question would be: What is the reason you are trying to save your marriage?

You have to be honest with each other, no matter how hurtful or ridiculous it might sound. You have to share your thoughts. And I’ll tell you what some of those thoughts could be:

    I won’t find someone better.

I’ll be alone and I can’t stand it.

It is really hard to find someone now days.

How am I going to survive by myself?

What is going to happen to me?

Who will look at me? I am old, fat, have children, etc., whatever applies to you.

Even if I meet someone, eventually, I’ll have the same problems. What’s the point?

This is an honest path, where you acknowledge the true motives of each other.

Honesty will bring in humbleness into your relationship and might give you a fresh start.

Accept what it is, do not expect what has never been there.

    Attitude!

There once was a woman who woke up one morning, looked in the mirror, and noticed she had only three hairs on her head.

“Well,” she said, “I think I'll braid my hair today.” So she did and she had a wonderful day.

The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror and saw that she had only two hairs on her head. “Hmm,” she said. “I think I'll part my hair down the middle today.” So she did and she had a grand day.

The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror and noticed that she had only one hair on her head. “Well,” she said, “today I'm going to wear my hair in a pony tail.” So she did and she had a very fun day.

The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror and noticed that there wasn't a single hair on her head. “YAY!” she exclaimed. “I don't have to fix my hair today!”

    Attitude is everything.

    Secret behind 'The Secret'?

    Secret behind "The Secret"? Wow...

How many Secrets behind the "The Secret"do we have to decode in order to get what we want? Are we eternally gullible? There is no secret.

    Ignorance! That's what it is!

    Sex-less Marriage?

On my way back home from work I was listening to the radio. There was an ad running for the website where people who are already in relationship can meet someone new, someone more exciting, which means sex.

A few days ago, I stumbled upon a sex-less marriage forum; people were discussing the problems they are having in marriage because sex is out of their relationship, dead.

What about the swingers - couples that engage in sexual relationships with other couples?

Sex is being separated from marriage as we speak.

For many, that sounds weird and unacceptable, but so were minority and women’s rights just 50 years ago.

If you told anyone at that time that in the near future we could have a black president or a woman president, they would laugh at you and consider you nuts.

Fake it until you make it!

The last century gave birth to many spiritual movements, such as the New Age movement. Essentially they are alike; The Power of Positive Thinking, Creative Visualization, Affirmations, Manifestation, etc.

Those teachings are full of contradictions; for example, let’s discuss “Manifest Abundance.”

They tell us that we can get anything we desire, but the main condition is we have to give up the desire itself, which basically means we should acquire a desire-less attitude.

That doesn't make any sense; either we desire or we do not?!

The majority of humans are evolving through repetition, that is, learning new ways of living and behaving by means of new teachings.

Unless we are guaranteed to benefit from the teaching, we are not interested in the process itself. Among those benefits are money, success, abundance, happy marriages, or in one word - heaven. (smile)

We have an image of heaven created by our limited mind, based on the old beliefs. We hold beliefs that were adopted at some point of evolution, where they served their timely value.

We follow the instructions (positive thinking, visualization, affirmation, etc.), which, by all means, are great tools to train our mind, to become aware of our mechanical thinking and behaving, the promised materialistic abundance is just a bait, skillfully offered to us by “Nature / the Universe.”

This is the only way to involve humans in evolutionary process, at least to most of us. This process is merely a translation. Which means, we’ve always been told what to do, in order to move on and progress.

Few are transforming! Those who do, show us the “WAY!”

Fake it until you make it! Let's fake it consciously. In other words, be aware of what, how, and why we do, whatever it is that we do. (smile)

“Radical transformative spirituality is extremely rare, anywhere in history, and anywhere in the world”

    Ken Wilber

Are you aware of your beliefs?

I have a coworker that I like a lot, despite the fact that she is not interested in any of the “stuff” that I am. You guessed it right, consciousness and all the other words that are strongly attached to it. (smile)

As someone who sympathizes with me, she’s been giving me advice on some dos’ and don’ts at work. I have a rebellious nature, thus, it’s been irritating me to some extent, even though I perfectly understand that the underlying intention behind those words is good.

If something keeps bugging me, it means I have a belief that creates this reaction to something I can’t put my finger on. I know it is not her, but every time she would give me a suggestion, she would trigger my “unknown belief.”

I am aware that I have many beliefs hidden from my immediate comprehension, and I work on one belief at a time (long time). I know that I am ready to dig it up, bring it out, to ponder it, and witness it, when I become self-conscious of my reaction.

Today, I had that ‘aha’ moment and I realized what exactly was happening.

Every time my coworker advises on something, she would, almost definitely, finish it with the phrase: “Be Careful.”

You see, I have this belief, that I am who I am, and I don’t need to create a mask for public places. ‘Be Careful’ strongly suggested to me that I was doing something wrong, that my behavior was not appropriate.

She perceives me as someone who is not being wise, thus, not careful.

She just stopped by my cubicle and passed on some news, better yet, a bit of gossip, and at the end she told me, Aha… You know already!

    "BE CAREFUL!”

I was quietly laughing to myself. Those words didn’t have the same power over me!

    Stages of Realization

I walk down the street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.I fall in. I am lost ---- I am helpless ---- it isn’t my fault. . . . .It takes forever to find a way out.

I walk down the same street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I pretend I don’t see it. I fall in again.I can’t believe I am in the same place ---- but it isn’t my fault. . . . It still takes a long time to get out.

I walk down the same street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I see it is there. I still fall in . . . . It is a habit. My eyes are open. I know where I am. It is my fault. I get out immediately.

I walk down the same street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I walk around it.

    I walk down another street.

    How we are being conditioned

Our beliefs have been conditioned over the centuries. We've, certainly, heard about this many times.

However, we don't fully realize it. The following video is a thought-provoking.

"If you genuinely believe that what you believe is true (of course, we all do), then you will not be looking any deeper into the issue."

    Evolution of Man

"Life evolves out of Matter, Mind out of Life, because they are already there: Matter is a form of veiled Life, Life a form of veiled Mind.

May not Mind be a form and veil of a higher power, the Spirit, which would be supramental in its nature?

Man's highest aspiration would then only indicate the gradual unveiling of the Spirit within, the preparation of a higher life upon earth."

"It is wrong to demand that the individual subordinate himself to the collectivity or merge in it, because it is by its most advanced individuals that the collectivity progresses; and they can really advance only if they are free.

But it is true that as individual advances spiritually, he finds himself more and more united with the collectivity and All."

"Man's highest aspiration - his seeking for perfection, his longing for freedom and mastery, his search after pure truth and unmixed delight - is in flagrant contradiction with the present existence and normal experience."

"Such contradiction is part of Nature's general method; it is a sign she is working towards a greater harmony. The reconciliation is achieved by an evolutionary progress"

"At each step one receives an intimation of what the following step will be"

"The nature of the next step is indicated by the deep aspirations awakening in the human race"

"Without an inner change man can no longer cope with the gigantic development of the outer life"

The Future Evolution of Man by Sri Aurobindo
